Sara was born and raised in Oklahoma along with her ten siblings. Her father moved the family to Houston at the start of the Second World War, and she left school early to help support her family. That didn’t stop her from obtaining her GED or taking night classes at North Harris County College to obtain her Associate of Applied Science degree. She worked for several banks over the course of her financial career and retired in 1997 from University Federal Credit Union in Austin. After retirement, she became a substitute teacher for Willis ISD and loved encouraging young children to learn and grow.
Sara enjoyed cooking and was notorious for feeding people. Her pumpkin pie recipe is a cherished family secret. She loved gardening, took great pride in her yard, and didn’t give up riding her lawnmower until she was in her late 80s.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and six brothers, her son, Trey, and her daughter, Carol. Sara is survived by her children: Denny, Debbie, and Jerry and wife Lavinia; sister, Pat Broussard and husband Henry; grandchildren: Rachel, Michael and wife Caroline, Kevin and husband Jarred, and Micaela and husband Matt; great grandchildren: Renin, Weston, Alex, and Samantha; and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at Cashner Funeral Home on Monday, December 13th at 2:00p.m. with visitation held one hour prior. Burial will follow services in Garden Park Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested memorial donations be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
