Memorial services to celebrate the life of Stephen Kenneth Van Metre will be held Friday, February 8, 2013 at 3:00pm in Cashner Colonial Chapel. Stephen was born July 4, 1949 in Bay City, Texas to Ernest and Madeline Van Metre and passed away January 28, 2013 in Conroe, Texas. Steve served our county in the United States Air Force as a SGT in the 463rd Avion Maint Squadron. He also served one tour in Vietnam as a radio tech on Flight Line. Steve belonged to the Allpoints North Model Railroading Train Club of Conroe. He retired from SBC in 2001, after 26 years as a communication. After retirement, Steve wanted to remain active and went to work for Aztec, where he installed equipment in SBC buildings. He loved the outdoors, fishing and camping. Steve is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Joyce Marie Van Metre; daughters, Theresa Dawn DuVall and Jennifer Rebecca Cantu; sons, Christopher Todd Van Metre and wife Amber Lynn; brother, Charles Taylor VanMetre; grandchildren, Tracy Marie DuVall, Doris Dolthea Court, Aubree Faith Cantu, Ava Grace Van Metre, Nolan Christopher Van Metre. Preceded in death by mother, Madeline Theresa Gabriel and father Ernest Evert Van Metre. Numerous other relatives and friends also survive.
