In 1966, Troy graduated from Sam Houston State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in business. Before graduating from Sam Houston, Troy earned a license to captain a commercial hundred-ton ocean going vessel. He pursued several different careers during his lifetime. He was committed to the goals he set whether he was the employer or the employed.
He worked several years at Stanley Construction in Freeport, Texas as a purchasing agent. During his employment with Stanley Construction, Troy frequently took people offshore on fishing trips. His love of saltwater eventually lured him completely away from the construction business and he went to work as the captain of a yacht for a corporation out of Houston. For several years, he captained a yacht, following bill-fishing tournaments along the Gulf Coast. He also spent time in Cozumel and the Bahamas during their bill-fish season.
He returned briefly to the construction business, building homes in the Magnolia - Conroe area. Eventually, Troy started his own business in Conroe, Texas, The Boat Lift Company, installing boat lifts predominantly in the Lake Conroe area.
When he retired, Troy began to travel extensively crisscrossing the United States multiple times. He loved to reminisce with old friends, travel, meet new people, share his adventure stories of hunting, fishing, and hear their stories in return. He was a loyal friend.
Plans for a memorial service are currently pending.
