Velma began her teaching career for the Tucson Independent School District. Later she moved to Arlington, Texas, where she taught many years for the Arlington Independent School District. Upon retirement from public school, she continued her teaching career at several Christian schools, including Paradise Valley Christian School in Phoenix, Arizona, Oak Ridge Christian Academy in The Woodlands, Texas, and Ovilla Christian School in Ovilla, Texas.
Velma was preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Robert M. Bush; her parents: Homer H. Smith and Mabel Harper Smith; and her brother: Billy H. Smith. She is survived by her sisters: Fae Warner, Virginia Mandeville, and Jeannie Price, all of Carefree, Arizona; by her daughters: Cheryl Ann Cabal and her husband, Ted, of Louisville, Kentucky, and Cathryn Lynn Moore and her husband, Frank, of Spring, Texas; her grandchildren: Daniel Cabal, David Cabal, John Cabal, Rachel Moore Phillips, Deborah Moore Lee, Rebekah Moore Conley, and Susanna Moore Mayer; her great-grandchildren: Colton Potter, Hudson Phillips, Landon Lee, Crosby Lee, Presley Phillips, Jackson Conley, Sophie Cabal, Judah Cabal, Jet Cabal, Nolan Cabal, Eli Cabal, Elsie Cabal, Addison Conley, Lola Cabal, Samuel Cabal, and Everly Lee.
Pallbearers for the service will be Daniel Cabal, John Cabal, David Cabal, Sean Conley, Jason Lee, Colton Potter, Jimmy Smith, and Dave Roelke.
Funeral service for Velma L. Bush will be held at Cashner Funeral Home, in Conroe, Texas on Tuesday, January 8, 2019 at 10:00am with Frank Moore as Minister. Interment will follow at Conroe Memorial Park Cemetery. Public visitation will be held at 9:00am prior to service.
