

Wanda Ruth Myers Dark, 83, of Conroe, Texas passed away on July 14, 2016 at her home surrounded by the love of family and friends. She was born on May 17, 1933 in Longview Texas, the eldest of two daughters born to Leonard and Ruby Myers. Wanda graduated from Longview High School and received an Associates degree from Kilgore Junior College. Upon completing college Wanda married her high school sweetheart William “Bill” Dark from neighboring Judson, Texas. Together they moved to Louisiana, California and Houston, Texas following Bill’s careers in the military and the oil and gas industry, they eventually settled in Conroe, Texas in 1969 to raise their four children. Wanda was a devoted wife and mother. Next month will mark Bill and Wanda’s 62nd wedding anniversary. Wanda enjoyed having her adult children remain close by and found pleasure in helping her youngest daughter start and maintain children’s clothing stores for 10 years in the greater Houston area. She also played an active role in her four grandchildren’s lives, regularly attending gymnastics, tennis and baseball tournaments. Wanda’s favorite hobby was gardening, she took great pride in her beautiful yard, receiving River Plantation “Yard of The Month” award several times. Her love for plants and gardening has been passed down to her next two generations.
The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the many caregivers who dedicated their time to improving Wanda’s care and comfort over the past 8 years.
Wanda leaves this earth to be reunited with her parents, Leonard and Ruby Myers, and children Becky and Billy Dark. She is survived by husband Bill Dark, son and daughter-in-law Ronnie and Ally Dark, and daughter and son-in-law Cindy and Jerry Hayley and grandchildren Amanda, Abby, Allyson and Jacob Hayley and Madison Dark (expected in September 2016).
Friends are invited to a visitation with the family at Cashner Funeral Home, 801 Teas Road Conroe, Texas on Sunday July 17 from 5:00-7:00pm. The funeral service will be held in the Cashner Colonial Chapel on Monday July 18 at 10:00am, with the Rev. Dr. David Green of First Presbyterian Church Conroe officiating. A grave-side service will be conducted by the Rev. Howard Fadner, Wanda’s nephew, at New Providence Cemetery, Judson Road, Longview, Texas on Monday July 18 at 5:00pm. In lieu of flowers, a donation in memory of Wanda can be made to the The First Presbyterian Church, Conroe, Texas (936)-756-8884, or the American Heart Association.
