Wilbur R. Baxley, 79 of Conroe, Texas passed away Wednesday, May 9, 2018. He was born January 8, 1939, in Pollock, Louisiana to Clyde and Essie Baxley. He married Jessie Louise Smith on May 17, 1957, and had six children. They moved to Houston, Texas, in August, 1965. He opened his business, Backslee Air Conditioning in 1975, and retired in 2005. He spent his last years in their Conroe, Texas residence. His life was filled with being a father, a grandfather, a business owner, a hunter and fisherman, as well as serving as deacon in the churches they attended. He also lead a weekly Bible study at Autumn Hills Convalescent Center in Conroe for many years, where he was affectionately known as "The Banana Man." He was preceded in death by his wife, Jessie Louise Baxley, father and mother, Clyde and Essie Baxley, and sister, Francis Baxley. He is survived by sons, Marlon Baxley of Cypress, Texas, James Baxley and wife, Pam of Montgomery, Texas, Kent Baxley of Coldspring, Texas and Kerry Baxley and wife, Pam from Coldspring, Texas, daughters, Celia Huntsman and husband, Sandy of Boca Raton, Florida, and Connie Baxley of Conroe, Texas, brothers and sisters-in-law, Wilton and Marylin Baxley of Bentley, Louisiana and Willard and Elizabeth Baxley of Lumberton, Texas and grandchildren, Stacey, Matthew, Wesley, Blair, Daniel, Alisa, Staci, Trenton, Keith, Joshua, Mikalyn and Marissa, and multiple great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 12, 2018, at 10:00 a.m. at Cashner Funeral Home in Conroe with visitation held one hour prior to the service. Additional funeral services will be held in Pineville, Louisiana at Hixson Brother’s Funeral Home on May 14 at 11:00 a.m. with visitation one hour prior to service. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Bentley.
