He was born on June 3, 1926 in Henderson, Tennessee to Ruth (Hardeman) Malone and Shelbin Malone. He was preceded in death by his wife, Robbye Marie Malone (née McClain), sisters Anne Nagel, and Martha Jean Usery. He leaves behind his daughter Laura (Kermit) Black of Montgomery TX, his son Robin (Karen) Malone of Valparaiso, Indiana, six grandchildren Rachael ( Russell) Gaunt of Aberdeen, Scotland, Sara (David) Steger of Bogart, Georgia, Molly Phelps of Valparaiso, IN, Ryan (Sarah)Malone of Holly Springs, NC, Benjamin (Abby) Malone of Knoxville, TN, and Nathan (Karley) Malone of Grand Rapids, MI, great grandchildren Lewis, Libby, and Leo Gaunt, Emma and Tessa Steger, Grace and Max Phelps, Camilla, Carlisle, Harrison, Jack, and Clark Malone.
Mr. Malone grew up in Henderson, TN. He served in the Army Air Core for one year being honorably discharged in December 1944. He went on to receive a BS in Civil Engineering from the University of Tennessee. Mr. Malone worked in the steel industry with Republic Steel the majority of his career focusing on Blast furnaces. He was a professional engineer who did consulting work after he left Republic Steel Cleveland Works.
He and his wife traveled extensively around the world. He was very proud to have received his pilot’s license at the age of 85. He also enjoyed flying his model airplanes. He was an avid photographer throughout his adult life. Mr. Malone enjoyed fishing from a young age until he was no longer able to. He enjoyed his life living in his Conroe Lake home after moving from Northfield, Ohio in 2000. He was always a Tennessee Volunteer fan especially following the Lady Vols basketball team.
He was a faithful member of the Church of Christ his entire life. He served as an Elder for many years at Westside Church of Christ in Fairlawn Ohio. He was an active member of the Woodland Oaks Church of Christ after moving to TX until he was unable to physically attend services but continued to watch online.
Funeral service is scheduled for Monday, January 6, 2024 at the Cashner Funeral home, 801 Teas Rd, Conroe, TX. Family will receive visitors from 1:00 pm with the service beginning at 2:00 pm. Service to be officiated by Mr. Dwight Dell.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be given to the Woodland Oaks church of Christ or the Lupus foundation of America.
