William Claude (Bill) Wright was born on March 14, 1933, in Fargo, North Dakota to William and Lillian Wright. He grew up in Fargo and graduated from North Dakota State University with a Degree in Business.
Bill served as a Captain in the United States Air Force from 1955 to 1960. He was stationed at the Chennault Air Base in Lake Charles, Louisiana in 1957. In Lake Charles, he met the love of his life, Angell Stockwell. They were married on December 12, 1959. After a short stay in Lake Charles, Bill and Angell moved to Berkeley, California where Bill attended University of California – Berkeley and graduated in 1967 with a Degree in Architecture.
Bill practiced architecture in Houston, Texas from 1967 to 1980. Bill’s warm personality and business background made him a natural salesperson. He successfully developed the firm’s business which included schools, hospitals and hotels. In 1980, he joined the Conroe Independent School District to oversee the planning and construction of Conroe and The Woodlands area schools.
Bill retired in 1994 and was able to further pursue his gifts of creativity. He had a woodshop where he made countless pieces of furniture. He enjoyed photography all of his life and was fascinated by the new opportunities to create in the digital age. Bill loved taking pictures of people, animals and nature.
Bill was an avid outdoorsman who marveled at nature's wonders. He enjoyed fishing and playing golf with his friends, as well as, skiing and swimming with his family.
Bill served the community through various organizations and as a board member of Family Promise and Montgomery County Performing Arts, and was Architectural Control for River Plantation. Bill was known for making an impact one person at a time. He was always there to help a friend or relative when they needed him.
Bill was first and foremost a family man. He is survived by his loving wife, Angell Stockwell Wright of 51 years, his adoring daughters, Mary Wright Taussig and her husband, Edward H. Taussig II, Susan Wright Carlock and her husband R. Alan Carlock. Bill’s zest for life and sense of humor lives on in his five grandsons: Christopher A. Carlock (22), Matthew O. Carlock (19), Edward H. Taussig III (16), William J. Taussig (15) and Kirby A. Carlock (13). Bill was predeceased by his twin sister, Mary Wright Lamb who died in 1998. He is survived by her husband, Dr. Don Lamb Sr., his niece Dr. Billie Lamb Rowles and three nephews Dr. Don Lamb, David Lamb and Dan Lamb and their families.
Visitation: Friday, 6 to 8 P.M. at Metcalf Funeral Home, Conroe, Texas
Memorial Service: Saturday, 10 A.M. at Trinity Episcopal Church, The Woodlands, Texas
