Wilma Lee Lowrey, 86, of The Woodlands, Texas, passed away quietly on July 8, 2021. She was a loving Wife, Mother and Grandmother who will be greatly missed. Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Jamie Lowrey; son, Thad Lowrey and his wife Amy; two wonderful grandchildren Travis and Lizzie; and a grand dog Nicholas whom she adored.
Lee was born in Ponca City, Oklahoma on October 13, 1934, to Wade Milton Warren and Letha B Embry Warren. After graduating High School in Ponca City, she went to the Wesley School of Nursing in Wichita, Kansas earning her Registered Nursing Degree. Lee retired from her profession after 40 plus years of service.
While going to nursing school a colleague and friend asked Lee if she would send caring, uplifting letters to her cousin who was a Marine in the Korean War. Through many letters bank and forth, this cousin would eventually end up being Lee’s loving husband Ed, a Petroleum Engineer of 58 years who passed on in July of 2016. They were married January 19, 1957. Together they had three children, daughter Carolyn Jamille Lowrey, son Wade Chandler Lowrey who passed on in 1990, and son Thad Warren Lowrey.
Ed’s profession in the Oil and Gas Industry led them to relocate several times throughout her life while continuing her nursing career. Lee was raising their first child Carolyn Jamille while her husband attended the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas to obtain his Bachelor of Science Degree in Petroleum Engineering, graduating in 1961. Upon his graduation, Lee relocated with her husband to Chickasaw, Oklahoma in 1964 where they had their second child, Wade Chandler. In 1967, they moved to Odessa, Texas having their third child Thad Warren. Eventually, passing through Midland, Texas they ended up in Houston, Texas and then to Cypress, Texas to live out their retirement.
During her golden years, Lee and Ed traveled to see family, friends and to explore different places. A special trip was to go through different states researching family history and uncovered some interesting clues to ancestral questions. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren whenever possible.
Lee was an expert in crafting and painting. From floral arrangements, sewing, hand-wood crafted item with the assistance of her husband, to painting oil and watercolor on canvas. She could pretty much do it all and as a perfectionist, enjoyed this hobby immensely. Lee and Ed were incredibly talented when it came to yard and garden work. They enjoyed working together to create a vibrant landscape wherever they lived. Lee was highly active in the church being involved in support groups and craft shows. She was also a big part of the pastoral care group and was a member of the choir along with her husband and daughter.
Lee was caring, unconditional, quick witted and always there if you needed her. She was admired by all who grew to know and love her. A special heartfelt Thank You to The Village of the Woodlands Waterway Senior Living facility and Omega Life Hospice for their stellar dedication, compassion, and kindness.
Services will be held at the Cypress Creek Christian Church in Spring Texas on Thursday, July 15, 2021, at 2:00 with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
