Duke is survived by his children, Kerry LaBate and her husband Paul of Cary, NC and Mark McKearney of Parkland, Florida and his grandchildren, Tyler, Brandon and Dylan. Preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Mary McKearney of Belmont, MA; his sister Grace Weber, of Colorado and his brother Bob McKearney of Florida.
Duke was born on January 18th, 1939, in Boston, MA to Arthur and Mary McKearney. Duke attended Belmont High School, where he was co-captain of their varsity golf team, and proudly rode the pine for the varsity basketball team. After graduating in 1956, he began working for Western Electric as a Communications Manager, until his retirement in 1991. In 1972, Duke moved to what is commonly known as “God’s country,” Lexington, MA, to raise his children.
After retirement, Duke relocated to Beverly Hills, Florida, to focus on his true passion, golf. Duke was a career scratch golfer and winner of multiple tournaments in both Massachusetts and Florida, Duke amassed 7 career hole-in-ones and was still shooting under his age into his late 70’s. We wish we had more to add, but outside of Disney and dating women by the hundreds, all the man did was spend his time on the course, hustling his golf buddies out of their pension checks.
“Papa Duke” was an extremely funny and kind-hearted man, and he will be truly missed and always loved.
At Duke’s request, he will be cremated, and his ashes spread over various locations in Florida and Massachusetts.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.kraeercoralsprings.com for the Mc Kearney family.
