Barney, known to friends and family as “Dr. H” or “Doc,” was an incredible and generous man in everything he did, and touched the lives of so many along his journey in life. He was truly a gift to all who knew him.
His strive for education was shown through receiving his bachelor’s degree from St John’s University in Jamaica NY, located behind the home he grew up in. Followed by his Medical degree from the University of Montpellier France, accompanied by his brother Anthony. There, they formed lifelong memories, friendships, and started their Orthopedic careers.
Born in Hungary, his Hungarian heritage and travel were his true passions, and stemmed from that, his learning and perfecting languages. He impressively spoke multiple languages and always happily stated he was in competition with his father Papci to learn more. He traveled often and always included his family to expand their knowledge of the world, to which they are beyond grateful.
To say he was an athlete is an understatement. From fencing, to judo and tennis, he excelled to the highest levels and loved sports to his core, and of course the beer he earned afterwards. His devotion to sports and friendship continued throughout his life with weekly tennis games, and scheduled Tuesday nights with “The Boys” for a drink and great conversation. These were the friendships that molded his life.
He was the beloved son of the late Dennis and Marianne Horvath. Survived by his children Jennifer, Melissa, Michael, Andrew, and Kathryn, as well as grandchildren, niece, nephew, and brother Anthony Horvath.
