Frederick W. Atkins

Fred is survived by his wife, Anna Marie (Nancy) Atkins; children, Thomas Atkins, Jude Sorcic (husband Jeff), Nancy Christopher (husband Mike); grandchildren, Matthew Atkins, Sarah Claypoole (husband Doug), Kaitlyn and Rachael Christopher; great-grandchildren, James and Madison Claypoole.

Fred was born on July 24, 1933 in Philadelphia, PA to William and Gertrude Atkins. He served in the US Army during the Korean War and was honorably discharged in 1955. He married Anna Marie, his high school sweetheart in 1954. Fred became a Philadelphia policeman and retired after 20 years of service. He moved to Florida in 1977 where he held several security positions and later worked for the Archdioceses of Miami Catholic cemeteries. He was always there for his children and grandchildren. He attended their events, cared about their wellbeing and offered his support.

Fred was a man of faith and had been an active member of St Luke’s Men’s Club; he also enjoyed being a member of the St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Senior club. Fred loved spending time with his wife traveling around the world. He liked to gamble - slots, horses, and Lotto and wasn’t afraid to ask for a discount. He was great at math but not so great with names as many of his friends and family are well aware.

He was a man of few words; he said what he meant and meant what he said. He showed his love through his actions. The family would like to thank Fred’s friend and aide Perry, Maxicare Select, Inc. and VITAS Hospice for their wonderful care.

A visitation for Frederick will be held Sunday, May 7, 2023 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Kraeer Funeral Home and Cremation Center, 1655 University Drive, Coral Springs, FL 33071. A funeral service will occur Monday, May 8, 2023 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Cemetery, 1500 S. State Rd. 7, N. Lauderdale, FL 33068. Father Quinn will officiate the ceremony. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Fred’s life.
