Gerd is survived by his son Wayne Gunther Munchow, daughter in law Alcira Munchow, his two granddaughters Heidi and Charlotte Munchow, and his sister Ruth Munchow. He is preceded in death by Flor Munchow, in 2019.
Gerd was born on March 7th, 1939, in Bad Polzin, Germany to Otto and Marta Munchow. He graduated from middle school after World War II in Germany and moved to Canada. Eventually relocating to the United States, Gerd began working for Mayflower and Bekins as a driver and later worked hard enough to establish himself as an independent driver. He married Flor Angela Munchow in 1967 and they lived in Pasadena. As a result of his resilience, honesty and hard work, he funded his pool construction company in 1972 and was one of the early developers in Broward County for almost forty years. In 1974, the couple welcomed his son into their home and Gerd set about teaching him ethical work and the value on doing things with integrity. His son remembers him as a kind and driven father who encouraged him to pursue their goals no matter the difficulties that life puts you through.
Gerd was an accomplished problem solver and would often engineer a handy solution for something intricate at work. He was a generous individual who loved his family. He was passionate about geography and history since it helped him stay in contact with the memory of his family lost when he was a child. He was an active and dedicated member of the American-German Club and often volunteered at the Oktoberfest.
A funeral will be scheduled in January in which we will celebrate Gerd’s life.
