John Wayne Joyner, affectionately known as “Butch” to family and friends, passed away unexpectedly on July 15, 2025, in Coral Springs, FL at the age of 71, following a massive heart attack. With a presence as big as his heart, John leaves behind a legacy of honesty, strength, and unwavering support for the people he loved. Born on July 9, 1954, in Rocky Mount, NC to John and Mildred Joyner, and raised by his grandparents, Hattie Bea and John Homer.
From an early age, he radiated intelligence and a “no BS” attitude, traits that would define him throughout his life. He was the kind of man who believed deeply in doing the right thing, never shying away from tough conversations or big decisions, and he became an excellent judge of character over the years. John married the love of his life, Deirdre (“Deede”) Joyner, in 1976—a union marked by steadfast devotion and abundant joy. Together they welcomed their daughter Brandi in 1978 and son Marques in 1981, milestones that filled John with pride. Watching his children grow, marry, and create families of their own became the great privilege of his life, further enriched by the laughter and love of his grandchildren. In 1989, John and his family moved to Coral Springs, FL where he continued his career with Buckeye Pipeline. It's there, he built a warm and happy home; the backyard and pool quickly became the heart of countless joyful gatherings and spirited family BBQs. John’s passions were simple yet profound—his family, his house, his backyard, and every moment spent gathered together. Holidays, Dallas Cowboys games, race cars, golf and even video games filled his days, but nothing compared to watching his grandchildren grow up beside him. Though not deeply involved in community organizations, John’s true impact was felt within his own circle—he was a protector, a teacher, and a role model with a gift for frank conversation and unconditional love. He is survived by his beloved wife Deirdre, daughter Brandi, son Marques, grandchildren Shyanne and Damian, sister Barbara, and brother Anthony. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother Howard. A memorial service will be held at a later date; the family appreciates your patience and support during this difficult time. John was loved so much and taken too suddenly, but leaves behind countless wonderful memories and absolutely no regrets.
