Lester Benjamin Dixon, passed away peacefully at home in Pembroke Pines, FL at the age of 62, surrounded with love by his close family. He fought a valiant battle with health issues during the past years.
Lester is survived by his mother, Otilia Dixon; his wife, Kay Roman-Dixon; his children: Leana Hughes (née Dixon) and Darian Dixon; his brothers Max, Wayne and Gary Dixon and sister Sheila Embuscado (née Dixon). Lester was also blessed with two grandchildren: Alexander and Riley Hughes.
He was born in San Juan, Puerto Rico and went to school in North Carolina and Puerto Rico. He joined the US Army in 1980 where he served for 13 years. At the same time, he married Gladys Dixon (née Negron), mother of his children. He was Honorably discharged from the US Army and then continued serving as a federal employee with the Social Security Administration for 37 years.
Besides spending time with his family and friends, Lester loved and practiced all sorts of sports, like running, cycling, swimming, surfing, skateboarding, boxing, etc. He took his body to limits, like preparing for and finishing three Great Floridian Triathlons in 1994, 1995 and 1996.
Music was the greatest companion in his life. A place with no music, was an empty and sad place. He also loved to cook and tried so many kinds of recipes. He worked hard to perfect his BBQ ribs recipe, and when he did it, they were out of this world!
He was easy-going, funny, he loved to be the center of attention, and he got it! His kindness, courtesy and friendliness were his best presentation card. Always welcomed with open arms, admired anywhere he went, people felt happy to assist him, because he showed them respect and gratitude for their work/help.
Lester: for all this and much, much more, you will always be in our hearts, you will be loved and missed Forever and a Day! No more pain or suffering, you are free to run now…
Graveside services will be held on Oct. 29th at 12:00PM at Our Lady Queen of Heaven Cemetery 1500 N State Road 7 North Lauderdale, Florida. All are welcome to celebrate Lester's life immediately following the services at the home of his brother Max 10723 NW 80th Circle Parkland, Florida 33076.
