Pedro Antonio Villanueva

Pedro Antonio Villanueva (81), of Coral Springs, Florida, passed away on August 7, 2023 from complications associated with Alzheimer’s Dementia. Pedro, fondly known as Choli, was born to Pedro and Maria Villanueva Calvo on January 18, 1942 in Ancash, Peru. He was an athlete and enjoyed playing sports like futbol, tennis and running. He attended La Universidad de Lima and worked at El Banco Central del Peru in Lima before immigrating to the United States in 1970. 

Pedro began what would later become a life of changing lives. He married his love, Clara Almeida Tasayco, and they began the next fifty years of their life together. He studied at Mercy College by day while they both cleaned homes and offices at night. He began a career at Westinghouse. They welcomed two daughters Caroline and Elizabeth. Westinghouse would move Pedro and family to Coral Springs, Florida in 1979. Pedro’s career in information technology included working at the City of Coral Springs, McKinsey and culminated at Silverseas in Ft Lauderdale.  

As a family man, Pedro worked as a computer engineer by day, and then at McDonalds at night to support his family. He was active and engaged with his daughters while Clara worked as a nurse at a local hospital. He made meals, took his daughters to the pool and beach, taught them sports and cared for the family home. He was a modern dad, he was a good dad. He raised his daughters with confidence, resiliency, to help others, and to love God. He took his daughters to church, sang hymns and loved the Lord. He played records, sang and danced. He loved his huaynos, which is folkloric music from the Andes o la sierra. 

Pedro started a nonprofit dedicated to supporting education and youth in Ancash, Peru. Education was a value and pillar for Pedro. He would become a mentor to many new families at church. Pedro was a strong believer in Christ. He was a lector, a lay minister, and faithful spiritual man. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and Emaus. Pedro was very involved each October in Senor De Los Milagros, a month of religious celebration for Peruvians. 

Pedro and Clara were among the first to bring their families to the United States. And those families brought their children. Generations of families are living the American Dream due to Pedro and Clara. His legacy is seen in his immediate and extended family. Pedro loved his family. He was a beloved Bolo to his three grandchildren. Pedro is survived by his wife Clara of 51 years, daughter Caroline (Tim Miller), grandson Matias and granddaughter Cruz, and daughter Elizabeth (Wayne) Tonning, grandson Georgie.  

Pedro’s family thanks many people through this journey. Especially, Catholic Hospice in his last journey. 

Pedro’s family is hosting a visitation at Kraeer Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 9, 2023 at 1655 N. University Drive in Coral Springs. The funeral mass will occur on Thursday, August 10, 2023 at 10:30AM at St. Vincent’s Catholic Church located at 6350 NW 18th Street, Margate. Pedro will then be laid to rest at the mausoleum of Our Lady Queen of Heaven Cemetery located at 1500 S. State Road 7, North Lauderdale. A reception follows at St. Vincent’s Catholic Church Community Center.  

Pedro Antonio Villanueva (81), de Coral Springs, Florida, falleció el 7 de agosto de 2023 por complicaciones asociadas con el Alzheimer’s demencia. Pedro, conocido cariñosamente como Choli, nació de Pedro y María Villanueva Calvo el 18 de enero de 1942 en Ancash, Perú. Era un atleta quien disfrutaba correr y jugar deportes como fútbol y tenis. Asistió a La Universidad de Lima y trabajó en El Banco Central de Perú en Lima antes de emigrar a los Estados Unidos en 1970.

Pedro comenzó lo que más tarde se convertiría en una vida de cambiar vidas. Se casó con su amor de toda la vida, Clara Almeida Tasayco, y comenzaron los siguientes cincuenta años de su vida juntos. Estudió en Mercy College durante el día mientras ambos limpiaban casas y oficinas por la noche. Después comenzó una carrera en Westinghouse. Ellos le dieron la bienvenida a sus dos hijas, Caroline y Elizabeth. En 1979, Westinghouse reubicó a Pedro y su familia a Coral Springs, Florida. La carrera de Pedro en tecnología incluyó trabajar en la ciudad de Coral Springs, McKinsey y culminó en Silverseas en Ft Lauderdale.

Como hombre de familia, el trabajaba como ingeniero de tecnología durante el día, y en McDonalds por la noche para mantener a su familia. Era un hombre activo y comprometido con sus hijas mientras Clara trabajaba como enfermera en un hospital local. El preparaba comidas, llevaba a sus hijas a la piscina y a la playa, enseñaba a sus hijas deportes y cuidaba la casa familiar. Era un padre moderno; era un buen padre.  El crió a sus hijas con confianza y resiliencia.  Les enseñó a ayudar a los demás y amar a Dios.  Pedro llevaba a sus hijas a la iglesia, cantaba himnos y amaba al Señor. El tocaba discos, cantaba y bailaba. Le encantaba sus huaynos, música folklórica de los Andes o la sierra.  

Pedro comenzó una organización caritativa dedicada a apoyar la educación y juventud en Ancash, Perú. La educación fue un valor y pilar para Pedro. El se convertiría en mentor de muchas familias nuevas en la iglesia. Pedro era un firme creyente en Cristo. El era lector, ministro laico y fiel hombre espiritual. El fué miembro de Knights of Columbus y Emaús. Cada octubre Pedro estaba muy involucrado en el Señor De Los Milagros, un mes de celebración religiosa para todos los peruanos.

Pedro y Clara fueron de los primeros en traer a sus familias a los Estados Unidos. Y esas familias trajeron a sus hijos. Generaciones de familias están viviendo el Sueño Americano gracias a Pedro y Clara. Su legado se ve en su familia inmediata y extendida. Pedro amaba a su familia. Era un Bolo querido por sus tres nietos. A Pedro le sobreviven su esposa, Clara, su amada compañera de 51 años, sus hijas, Caroline (Tim Miller) and Elizabeth (Wayne) Tonning, y sus nietos, Matias, Cruz, y Georgie.

La familia de Pedro agradece a muchas personas a través de este viaje y especialmente Catholic Hospice en su último viaje.

La familia de Pedro ha organizado servicios fúnebres en Kraeer Funeral Home 5-9PM, agosto 9, 2023 ubicado en 1655 N. University Drive, Coral Springs. La misa fúnebre tendrá lugar, agosto 10, 2023 a las 10:30AM en la Iglesia Católica de San Vicente ubicada en 6350 NW 18th Street, Margate. Pedro será enterrado en el mausoleo del cementerio, Our Lady Queen of Heaven, ubicado en 1500 S. State Road 7, North Lauderdale.  Después del entierro, sigue una recepción en el Centro Comunitario de la Iglesia Católica de San Vicente.
