On August 4, 1954, the beautiful soul of Susan Elznic came into the world, the 4th child of Frank and Florence Elznic. On May 4, 2025, the loving, caring, mother of 2 passed onto the other side leaving behind her husband Steve and children Gregory and Diana Nelson.
Raised in Westbury Long Island NY along with her sisters Jeanne and Florence and brother Douglas, she met the love of her life, Stephen, in Elkins WV at Davis and Elkins College. The 2 of them have been together for 50 years, marrying in 1978, moving to Florida in 1984. They have lived in Coral Springs, FL for the past 40 years.
She worked for the School Board of Broward County for 30 years at Riverside Elementary School, mostly as the Micro-Tech of the school, before retiring in June 2021.
Susan is preceded in death by her parents Frank and Florence Elznic, her sister and brother-in-law Jeanne and Robert Tscherne and brother-in-law William Nelson.
She is survived by her husband Steve, children Gregory and Diana, sister and brother-in-law Florence and Al Salerno, brother and sister-in-law Douglas and Stephanie Elznic, brother-in-law’s David and Theo Nelson, and Chuck and Eileen Nelson along with numerous nieces and nephews’.
Susan adored her family especially enjoying celebrating holidays together. She had a special love for her labradors Bowser, Tucker, Jake, Jackson and Mason. She loved dogs’ period. She had a passion for animals, shown in helping raise Jasime, our cat, from a 3-day old baby found in a field, feeding her with an eye dropper to the adult cat she is today.
In her later years she enjoyed raising and releasing Monarch butterflies, setting free over 200 of them once they were born. She loved reading, doing puzzles, going to the movies and the beach but her true love has always been her family.
She was a wonderful, caring mother to her children, lifelong friend, partner and adoring wife to her husband. While she is in a better place she will be missed dearly by her friends and family for her caring and love, and sharp wit and humor.
A celebration of her life will be held at the Kraeer Funeral Home on May 31 at 1pm. For those who cannot attend the celebration will be streamed by clicking on the button below,
