Yvonne Dorothy Lawrence was born on October 11,1946 in Kingston, Jamaica, West Indies in Victoria Jubilee Hospital. She was the eldest child of 12 for Frances Kelly and only child for Claudius A. Hamilton.
Her childhood was an adventurous one as at the age of 16, she left Jamaica to live with her grandmother in England, where she groomed into the Miss English Lady always ready to put on a pot of tea at a drop of a hat.
Yvonne went to Windward Road Primary School and graduated with certifications, then went to Duff Business School where she took business courses which led to her job as an Executive Secretary at Brink Security System and also assistant to the Commissioner of Police in Jamaica for many years. She spent most of her career at Florida Medical Center in various positions as she advance her education. As a unit coordinator she was known for her resourcefulness to her peers as she was responsible for training many new healthcare NURSING DEPT workers on the computer system. They also remember her as being very professional with a cheerful smile and a great attitude on life. She achieved much and received many awards for being an outstanding worker.
In 1966, she met Harold Channer Sr. through a mutual friend. Later on in 1968, he became her husband and they had two children, Adrienne and Harold Channer Jr. in 1970 and 1972. In 1973, they migrated back to Jamaica. A few years later, they were divorced, which made change her plans for the future. In 1980, she moved to the United States to South Florida. In 1984, she met her second husband Frank E. Lawrence. In 1985, she had her third child, Anthony Brinkley Lawrence. Sadly, in 1996, her husband passed away from cancer.
My favorite memories of mom sitting on the porch drinking a hot cup of coffee and if it is not hot please don’t give it to her lol reading the newspaper or a book which she love to read all kinds of mystery like Nancy drew and romantic novels ,later on the bible and hymn book became a bigger part o f her life I miss her jokes …
On January 6, 2021 at 9:05pm, she was called to rest. She left behind three children, Adrienne, Harold Jr., and Anthony; daughter-in-law, Jerrinah; and grandchildren, Jalisa, Andrew Joseph and Aaron Christopher; 8 sisters, Annette, Ms. Jean, Dorett, Judith, Olive, Debbie, Polly, and Peaches; and two brothers, Earl and Michael. She is preceded in death by her brother, George.
She is also survived by plenty of nieces and nephews, cousins, and a host of close friends that were like family: Auntie Mercy and family, Auntie Lizabeth and her husband, and Ludi who was a great supporter and friend to mom and our family through her transition from home to the nursing home at Tamarac where she passed. We sincerely thank you and to the brothers and sisters of Church of Christ who ministered and gave her communion when she was able to accept it.
