His legacy lives on with his wife of 43 years, Winona Lipp; and five children, Hillary, Valerie, Natalie, Daniel, and Jonathan.
The world was gifted with Alan on February 17, 1952 in Frankfort, IN to Edwin and Gladys Lipp. Alan came a little over a year after his sister, Cheryl; and his two brothers, Bruce and Kenneth, came after him.
Alan graduated from Frankfort High School with the class of 1970, and moved on to a few jobs (such as working at a ketchup factory and manager at a shoe store) before finally landing a career in semi-truck driving. At the age of 28, Alan found Winona, the true love of his life, and with her came Hillary, whom he adopted with such love that supersedes blood. Together, they moved around a few places, expanding the family on the way, until finally landing in Merrillville, where a wonderful home was built.
Despite supporting a family, he was able to achieve his dream of owning a beautiful yellow Corvette that he kept extremely well and even won a few trophies at car shows with. He worked harder than most, often away for work, but his heart never left your side, and as he would say, “You can always call dad.” He had four dogs who he loved very much; Maggie, Coco and, later bred from Maggie, brothers, Sam and Dean. Alan was always good with animals, as if they could sense his gentle and loving nature. He was what he called “a gamer,” for he seldom ever gave up unless it was the right thing to do.
Alan was a star in this world, warming the souls of all who got to experience his light. He was always looking to put a smile on everyone’s faces, and if you came to him with a problem, he always had a solution. He wanted to help everyone be their best, always reminding us to make the right choices.
This may be the end of the story that is Alan Dean Lipp, but his life, legacy, and love run strong through those who will remember him.
In lieu of flowers, we greatly encourage donations to Gift of Hope, so that others may get more time with the ones they love.
Family and friends are invited to join in a Celebration of Alan’s Life on Friday, November 14, 2025, from 2:00 to 6:00 pm at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 8178 Cline Avenue, Crown Point, IN 46307.
