Alfred R. Uzis

Alfred R. Uzis age 87, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 20, 2020. He is survived by his wife, Marilyn M. (nee Kmiecik) Uzis; children, Judy (Paul) Finlayson and Daniel Uzis; grandchildren, Jennifer (Richard Pundurs) Finlayson, Matthew Finlayson, and Kyle (Brittany Boyd) Uzis and great grandson, Weston Boyd. Preceded in death by his brother, Albert Uzis. Alfred was born April 23, 1933 in East Chicago, IN to the late Paul and Albina Uzis and was a graduate of Roosevelt High School in East Chicago, IN. Alfred went on to obtain his Bachelor of Law and Juris Doctor Degree from Valparaiso University in 1960. On November 12, 1960, he married the love of his life and together they raised 2 children while living in East Chicago and then in Highland, IN. Prior to his retirement from his private law practice, Alfred served as the legal advisor for the Hammond Police department from 1970 to 1980. During his law career he also served as the Town Attorney for Lowell, IN, as the Deputy Prosecutor for Lake County, and as the Assistant United States Attorney for the Northern District of Indiana. Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at 12:00 pm at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home (8178 Cline Avenue Crown Point, IN) with Rev. Theodore J. Mens officiating. Interment to follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Crown Point, IN. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Tuesday morning from 10:00 am until time of service at the funeral home.
