

Barbara was born on October 9, 1946, in Hammond, IN, to Thomas Black and Mary (Zacny) Black, both of whom preceded her in death. She graduated from Gavit High School in Hammond, IN, and later went on to marry the love of her life, Thomas Hoekema, on May 7, 1968. They enjoyed 57 years of a loving and devoted marriage.
Barbara was a passionate animal lover and had a deep appreciation for the companionship of her pets. She found joy in watching soap operas and staying informed through News Max, always staying connected to current events. Barbara was also a staunch supporter of President Donald Trump, a cause that she followed closely. Above all, Barbara's greatest joy came from her family, especially her grandchildren. She cherished the time spent with them and was immensely proud of each of their accomplishments.
Barbara is survived by her beloved husband, Thomas Hoekema of LaGrange, IN; son, Tim (Jackie) Hoekema of St. John, IN; daughter, Mary (Rich) Kerley of St. John, IN; daughter, Lisa (Tim, Sr.) Radtke of Hebron, IN; and daughter, Caryn (Shawn) Williamson of LaGrange, IN. She is also survived by her 12 grandchildren, Trevor Nagy, Rebecca Radtke, Nicholas Nagy, Tim Radtke, Jr., Jacob Hoekema, Kara Hoekema, Josh Hoekema, Clayton Marshall, Blake Marshall, Grace Radtke, Lily Radtke, and Kate Kerley; as well as great-grandchild, Rai Lynn Elizabeth; her brother, Tom Black (Norma); and many nieces and nephews.
Barbara will be remembered for her loving spirit, unwavering dedication to her family, and the warmth she brought into the lives of all who knew her. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all those who had the privilege of knowing her.
A visitation for Barbara will be held Monday, January 6, 2025 from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 8178 Cline Avenue, Crown Point, IN 46307. Burial to follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.
