Carol Jean Dumbsky, age 81, of Highland, IN, passed away peacefully on October 13, 2023. Carol was born at home on Christmas to John and Lucille (Hilbrich) Dumbsky in Dyer, IN. Carol attended St. Joseph Catholic School and was a graduate of Dyer High School. She was a long-time dedicated employee of JM Foster.
Carol is preceded in death by her parents, John and Lucille Dumbsky; brother, Ron Dumbsky; sisters, Betty and Shirl Dumbsky, and Jackie (Ray) Burke; and brother-in-law, Ernest Benninghoff.
Her memory will be cherished by her sister, Eileen Benninghoff; and sister-in-law, Emma Dumbsky; nieces and nephews, Karen Dubrick, John (Heather) Dumbsky, Dave (Michelle) Dumbsky, Jim (Shannon) Dumbsky, John (Julianne) Burke, Rhona (Barb) Dunn, Sherry (Wally) Larmon, Laurie (Joe) Hetzel, Chris (Craig) Mikuly, Mike (Shelly) Benninghoff, Rob (Kathy) Benninghoff, Jen (Henry) Davids, Paul Benninghoff, and Patti (Elliott) Lawson; as well as long-time friend, George Gregory.
Even though Carol had no children, she loved her nieces and nephews as if they were her own and she will be deeply missed.
Carol loved to cook, take road trips, sip wine, play Rummikub with friends, and spend time with her family. Her greatest source of pride was working at JM Foster which, at the time, was one of the largest construction companies in the country. Carol learned so much about the Union Law, she was offered a position in Washington, but like many other opportunities, she declined due to family obligations. Carol sacrificed much of her young adult life caring for others. Her dedication and selfless devotion to those she loved was by far her strongest attribute.
Special thank you to Carol’s caregiver, Lara, and the staff at Hospice of the Calumet area.
