

Darrell McLean, age 82, passed away peacefully on Sunday, August 05, 2012 surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his three children: Patricia (James) Jarmakowicz of Hammond, IN, Geri (Chip) Bevan of Schererville, IN, and Daniel (Jeannette) McLean of Harlan, IN; seven grandchildren: Angela Nowell of Griffith, IN, James (Sara) Nowell of Mattawan, MI, Aaron (Beth) Bevan of Hammond, IN, Ashley (Paul) Siemer of Highland, IN, Todd Bevan of Schererville, IN, Brandy McLean of Plymouth, IN and Josilyn McLean of Harlan, IN, Andrew Jarmakowicz of Highland, IN and Kelley Jarmakowicz of Black Oak, IN; eight great grandchildren: Andrew, Johnathan, Levi, Aidan, Ellie, Noah, Reese and Rhylinn; one sister, Rosanna Smith of Akron, IN. Preceded in death by his loving wife of 59 years, Margaret E. McLean, who passed away on April 1, 2011; and grandson, James Michael Jarmakowicz. Darrell proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart. After active duty, he went on to serve in the Indiana National Guard until July of 2005. Darrell retired from Union Tank Car Co. after 47 years of employment. After retirement, he went on to work for Strack and Van Til in Schererville for over 10 years. Darrell also volunteered with Community Hospital's Mended Hearts program for many years. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, August 9, 2012, 11:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home (8178 Cline Ave., Schererville, IN) with Pastor Don Rector officiating. Interment Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. Friends are invited to visit with the family on Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at the funeral home from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the Calumet Area.
