He is survived by his husband of 7 years, Dennis F. Kaminski; brother, Mike (Chris) Dahms; nieces, Colleen Green and Shelley (Craig) Shawgo; great nieces, Lacey Green, Madison Shawgo and Gage Shawgo; great grand nephew, Maverick and beloved sisters-in-law Karen (Robert) McLean and Judith Ferry.
Preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Harriet (nee Hunt) Dahms.
David was born on August 19, 1952 in Summit, IL to the late Ralph and Harriet Dahms and was a 1970 graduate of Rich Central High School. He worked at C.J. Printing, Sears Hardware and the Portage Petco.
David enjoyed baking, laughter, camping and spending time with his family. He was an active animal rights advocate. David served as president of the Independent Cat Society and along with his partner, he co-founded Cast-away Critters animal rescue. David also helped lead a Northwest Indiana rescue effort to bring animals to the area who lost their homes and families due to Hurricane Katrina. He and his partner have provided a home to many animals who did not end up getting adopted.
David was loving, kind and generous and will truly be missed by all whose lives he touched.
Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, June 8, 2021 at 12:00 PM at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home (8178 Cline Avenue Crown Point, IN) with Pastor Rebecca Sundquist officiating.
Interment to follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Crown Point, IN.
Friends are invited to meet with the family on Tuesday morning from 10:00 AM until time of funeral service at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Indiana Horse Rescue.
