David O'Brien

David L. O'Brien, age 78, of Valparaiso, IN, passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2026. David was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Dianne D. O'Brien (nee Marino). David entered the US Navy and served his country from 1966-1969. David was a member of the Vietnam Veterans Association Chapter 905 of Valparaiso, IN, and a member of the American Legion Post 502 of Valparaiso, IN. David was a member of Our Lady of Sorrows Church, where he was also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council 12149 as a Past Grand Knight. David was a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

David was preceded in death by his parents, Loren and Gayle O'Brien; and sisters, Becky Atwood (nee O'Brien), Judith Ling (nee O'Brien), and Cathy Combs (nee O'Brien). David was also preceded in death by his daughter, Erin O'Brien.

David is survived by his daughter, Christine (Joseph) Pytel; sons, Jonathon O'Brien and Joseph (Julie) O'Brien; and daughter, Angela (Peter) O'Brien-Goldsberry. David is also survived by his twelve grandchildren, Matthew and Benjamin Pytel, Erin O'Brien, Kerkland, Ethan, Devin, Gavin, Madison, and Kahlin O'Brien, Tim, Sean, and Cora Lyn Goldsberry; and three great-grandchildren.

Funeral mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church, 356 West 700 North, Valparaiso, IN, 46385. Private burial will follow at Chapel Lawn 8178 Cline Ave., Crown Point, IN, 46307.
