Dorothy A. Ziel

Dorothy was the loving wife of 62 years to the late Ronald Ziel; beloved mother to Richard (Carolyn) Ziel, Susan (Robert) Wimberley, Sandra Terry, and Lisa (William) Martin; proud grandmother to Ricky (Noel) Ziel, Pamela (Robert) Flores, Ryan (Amanda) Ziel, Jon (Minna) Wimberley, Jeff Wimberley, Nick Terry, Brandy (Chris) Grande, Korie (Jamie) Breig, Nick (Brooke) Craney, Savanah (Carlan) Gay, Tyler Craney, Levi Martin, Riley Martin and Luke Martin; great-grandmother to Hailey, Mackenzie, Tucker, Makenzie, Jakson, Evan, Owen, Nathaniel, Zeke, Zaelyn, Ava, Lilly and Carolina; great-great grandmother to Wrenley; cherished sister to Joe (Nancy) Verplank, Gretchen Dye, Barbara Pratt and Tom (Cindy) Verplank; and aunt to many.

Dorothy and her husband were the owners and real estate brokers for Miami Dade Realty. Dorothy was an engaging and enthusiastic grandmother, participating in all her grandchildren’s interests and sporting activities. Her family could always count on her to be their biggest cheerleader.

Dorothy was a peacemaker and the glue that always held her family together. Her legacy was her uncanny ability to invest in and impact the lives of those around her. She had a peaceful and joyful spirit and was instrumental in planning, organizing, and hosting family gatherings and holiday celebrations.

In her final weeks of life, Dorothy was surrounded by family and friends at her bedside expressing their love and saying their final goodbyes, while Dorothy received her last rights. Dorothy passed away in the loving arms of her eldest daughter, while she sang “Somewhere over the Rainbow” to her mother.

Visitation will be Friday, August 4, 2023, from 4:00 - 8:00 PM and on Saturday, August 5, 2023 from 11:00 AM until the Memorial Service at 12:00 PM at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 8178 Cline Avenue, Crown Point, IN 46307. She will be laid to rest and rejoined with her husband in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.
