Dorothy E. Ziga

Dorothy E. Ziga, age 84, of Syracuse, IN, formerly of Schererville, IN, passed away on Friday, March 3, 2023. Dorothy was born in Chicago, IL, on August 19, 1938, to the late Martin B. and Alicia (Kaemerer) Sack.

She is survived by her daughter, Mary (Craig) Hilbrich; sons: Richard (Robin) Ziga !!, Wayne (Jean) Ziga; grandchildren: Christopher (Amanda) Mack, Melissa (James) Ducheteau, Rebecca (Shayne) Wakefield, Richard III, Randy, Racheal Ziga, Kyle and Courtney Ziga; great-grandchildren: Madalyn and Ryan Mack, Josephine, Kendal, Josslyn Ducheteau, Avery and Harper Mack, Shayne and Corbin Wakefield; brother, Russell Sack; sister, Rose Casalin; along with numerous nieces and nephews, and dear friends.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Richard Ziga Sr., grandson, Ryan Mack, and granddaughter, Bethany Ducheteau.

Dorothy was a parishioner of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Griffith, IN for many years. She worked at Lake Central High School as a head cook for 18 years and as a Home Health Aide. She had a true servant heart. She just loved to cook! Dorothy would cook enough food to feed a small army. She enjoyed entertaining family holidays, and game nights. She also would cook for the Church during first Fridays. Having family and friends over for a poker game or a game of dice was what she lived for. Religion definitely played a very important part in Dorothy's life. She dedicated her life to the Lord and the Blessed Mother. She also made sure to take the time to smell her wonderful rose bushes. Tending to her garden is just one of the many ways she liked to spend her time outside of work.

Her family will forever remember her infectious smile, and her loving, kind, and giving heart. She will be terribly missed, and they wish her rest in heaven.

A public visitation for Dorothy will be held Thursday, March 9, 2023, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM with a Prayer service beginning at 7:30 PM at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 8178 Cline Avenue, Crown Point, IN 46307. A Mass of Christian Burial will occur Friday, March 10, 2023, at 10:00 AM at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 525 N Broad St., Griffith, IN 46319. Rev. Ted Nordquist will be officiating. Burial to follow at St. Michael's Cemetery, 1 W Wilhelm St., Schererville, IN 46375.
