Emil Zimmer, age 93, entered into eternal rest on June 25, 2021. Emil was born May 19, 1928 in Tulsa Oklahoma and moved to Hammond as a young boy with his parents and three older sisters. He attended Hammond Tech before enlisting in the Navy. After the war ended Emil worked at NIPSCO, Standard Oil and finally at Jerit Awning Supply in Crestwood, Illinois where he was an owner. Emil loved watching sports, particularly the Cubs and Bulls and he coached youth football and basketball in his younger years. Emil was very creative, always making small projects which he gave away freely. He enjoyed seeing the pleasure that this gave others. All he asked for in return was a smile.
Emil is survived by his daughter, Lynda (Gerald) Gomben of Merrill, Wisconsin and son-in-law, Tom (Cyndi) Kilheeney of Seymour, Tennessee. He is also survived by grandchildren Kristan Guijara, Jason (Rachel) Kilheeney and Nick Kilheeney. Emil was also a great grandfather. A special thank you to his caregiver Alex Alcantar who lovingly cared for Emil over the last 2 1/2 years.
Emil was preceded in death by his beloved wife Donna and daughter, Laurel Kilheeney.
