Ernesto G. Lopez

Ernesto G. Lopez, age 88, of Bourbonnais, IL, passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 19, 2025, surrounded by the love of his family. Born in Starr, TX, Ernesto lived a full and beautiful life rooted in faith, family, and hard work.

He was welcomed into eternal rest by his beloved wife of 56 years, Modesta Lopez; his parents, Nicolas and Delfina (Guerrero) Lopez; and his cherished siblings, Federico, Jose, Guadalupe, Victoria, Elias, Dora, and Trinidad.

Left to carry on his legacy are his loving children, Leticia Nunez, Ernesto “Ernie” (Maureen) Lopez, Josefa “Josie” (Juan) Contreras, Betty Ann (Nick) Mattia, Eddie Lopez, Melissa (Michael) Gurley, and Esteban “Steve” (Rehana) Lopez. He was the proud grandfather of 23 grandchildren and the adoring great-grandfather of 43 great-grandchildren, each of whom brought joy and pride to his life.

Ernesto had a deep love for sports, especially baseball and golf, and was a lifelong fan of the Chicago Cubs. But more than anything, his heart belonged to his family. Whether gathered around the dinner table, cheering from the sidelines, or simply sharing quiet moments together, his happiest times were always those spent with the ones he loved most.

A man of strength, kindness, and quiet wisdom, Ernesto touched many lives with his gentle presence and unwavering love. His legacy will live on in the stories shared, the traditions kept, and the generations he helped shape.

He will be missed more than words can express and will be remembered with love forever.

A visitation to honor Ernesto will be held on Friday, July 25, 2025, from 3:00 to 8:00 PM at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 8178 Cline Avenue, Crown Point, IN 46307. A funeral service will follow on Saturday, July 26, 2025, at 10:00 AM, also at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest next to his wife at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.
