She is survived by her children, Kim (Mark) Grantner, the late Kerry (Eileen) Bruno, Karen (Norm) Nikruto, Ken (Marylynn) Bruno, Kevin (Sandy) Bruno, and Kathy Grabowski; as well as her 22 grandchildren & 20 great-grandchildren.
Geraldine was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Philip Bruno; and her son, Kerry Bruno.
A proud graduate of Bowen High School, Geraldine formed a lifelong friendship with Rose Giangulio, which lasted until her passing. She married the love of her life, Philip Bruno, on October 26, 1952. Together, they raised six children and were deeply involved in all their activities. The family first lived in the Roseland and Wrightwood neighborhoods of Chicago before moving to Schererville, IN, where they formed lasting bonds with neighbors and friends. Her home became a gathering place, particularly at Christmas, when people would come to admire the elaborate decorations she spent months setting up.
Geraldine loved to travel, discover new experiences, and share her sense of humor with those around her. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who treasured her family and friends. In her free time, she enjoyed reading, working on puzzles, and spending time with her dogs. As a passionate Chicago White Sox fan, she relished every moment spent following her team. Geraldine was also an active member of St. Michael’s Church in Schererville, where she found comfort and community.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to Hospice of the Calumet Area or the Dementia Society of America.
A visitation will be held for Geraldine on Wednesday, February 19, 2025, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 8178 Cline Avenue, Crown Point, IN 46307. A funeral service will take place on Thursday, February 20, 2025, at 10:30 AM at St. Michael the Archangel Church, 1 West Wilhelm Street, Schererville, IN 46375, followed by a committal service at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Her warmth, love, and vibrant spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
