Joan E. Gernenz

Joan E. Gernenz, age 82, of Crown Point, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 13, 2016 at St. Mary Medical Center of Hobart, with her loving family at her side. Joan was born July 6, 1934, in Champaign, Illinois to the late Fred and Bertha (Sullivan) Percival. Also preceding her in death are her sister in law Bonnie Percival, and two nephews. Left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 63 years, Al Gernenz; children, Alan (Beth) Gernenz, Gary Gernenz, Sue (Don) Whitlock, Mike (Valerie) Gernenz; 11 grandchildren; 5 great grandchildren; brothers, Glen Percival, Gene (Helen) Percival; and many nieces and nephews. Joan worked for Sears Service Center in Merrillville. She and her husband raised Arabian horses for over 50 years and competed in many shows. She was also a member of Red Hat Club. Joan was extremely family orientated, and a loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a genuine and an outstanding mother caring and loving all of her children and extended family equally and uniquely. She will be truly missed by all who loved her. Visitation will be Wednesday, November 16, 2016 from 4-8 pm at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home (8178 S. Cline Ave.; Schererville, Indiana 46375).
