John Robert Hollifield Sr.

John R. Hollifield age 62, peacefully passed away on Tuesday, November 7, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Margie (nee Helderman) Hollifield; son, John Robert Hollifield Jr; siblings, Linda Hollifield, Sandy (Chuck) Harbison and Judy (Bobby) Porter; nephews and nieces, Douglas, Jeffery, Jeremy, Dallas and Bobby K and great nieces and nephews, Kendall, Jana, Jeremy, Brayden and Gabriel and one baby on the way and dedicated caregiver, Sharen Wright. Preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Peggy Hollifield and niece, Jamie Harbison.

John was a graduate of Calumet High School class of 1973. He started working alongside his dad in the garage at age 8 years. With the great example and inspiring teachings of his dad, John was operating the garage on his own at age 15. He became one of the best known auto body men around town. John stepped into his own racecar at the age of 15 at Broadway Speedway. Racing was his passion. He raced all over Indiana, Tennessee, Wisconsin, Florida, Illinois, Kentucky, Michigan and a few races on the Hooters Cup Circuit. John and Margie owned and operated many businesses starting in 1978, John's Auto Body in Black Oak, Auto Salvage and John's Auto Parts in Terre Haute, IN. They were very successful until they had to sell due to John's challenge with ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis). John was a generous and giving man right up to the end. He was an amazing husband, father, son, brother, uncle and boss and will truly be missed by all whose lives he touched.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 11, 2017 at 1:00 PM at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home (8178 Cline Avenue Crown point, IN) with Man of God, Jeremy C. Harbison officiating.

Entombment to follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Crown Point, IN.

Friends may meet with the family on Saturday morning from 10:00 AM until time of service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the family.
