John Floyd Shavey

Loving father to Sonja (Tom Kitzmiller) Anderson, John A. Shavey and the late Mary Shavey; proud grandfather to Alyssa Anderson, Jay Anderson, the late Jenna Lynn Anderson, John A. Shavey Jr. and Jacob Shavey; great-grandfather to Owen and Chase Geringer; former spouse to Stella Wagster; devoted son to the late Arthur and Eunice Shavey; cherished brother to Audrey Wheeler, Dolly Vavrek, Fred (Kathy) Shavey, Arthur "Butch" (Shali) Shavey and the late Barbara Baughman; uncle, great-uncle and cousin to many.

John retired after 37 years of service as an electrician at LTV Steel. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying fishing and hunting. His popular place was on the Kankakee River, fishing. John always looked forward to his Canada fishing trips with the guys. Camping at different lakes in the area were always on his agenda. He enjoyed sharing his camping and fishing experiences with his grandchildren, especially the trips to see family in Kentucky. He was most happy spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

Visitation will be Thursday, March 30, 2023 from 2:00-8:00 pm at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Friday, March 31, 2023 at 10:00 am. Family encourages guest to dress casual and to wear camouflage in his honor. He will be laid to rest in Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.
