“Red” was born April 12, 1934 in Hammond, Indiana to the late Anthony and Margaret (Browniwell) Sovinski.
On February 6, 1960, in Chicago, he married the love of his life Ida Hope (Romo) Sovinski, she preceded him in death on February 5, 2008. Also preceding him in death is a grandson Richard L. Gomez and two great- great grandsons.
He is survived by his children, Richard (Marcella) Gomez, Martha (the late Joe) Supulevda, Pauline (Martin) Garcia, Kathleen Stewart, Vivian (Santos) Hernandez, and Cynthia Sovinski-Powers, 14 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and 3 great-great grandchildren.
Upon graduating Bishop Noll High School, he selflessly enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving during the Korean Conflict. After his discharge, he worked at the Jr. Toy factory in Hammond, and managing the “Shiny Spot” of Black Oak. He retired from Inland Steel after years of faithful service. “Red” will always be known for his unique sense of humor, finding himself being the center of attention, and having fun and great memories with his daughters and granddaughters. He and his special “sidekicks” grandson and granddaughter enjoyed going to various sporting events, especially baseball games, and he will be missed by all of his grandchildren.
