Mac D. Sakal

Mac believed in embracing life’s opportunities and challenges with courage—living by the motto “No Fear.” Known for his integrity, kindness, and charisma, he had a gift for lighting up a room and leaving lasting memories.

He dedicated 39 years to his career as an electrician at NIPSCO and also ran his own business, Mac’s Auto, helping countless people get safely back on the road. His hard work extended to refurbishing homes into rental properties, creating opportunities for many families.

Mac loved the outdoors and adventure—whether fishing, captaining a boat, riding motorcycles, traveling across the U.S., or enjoying the thrill of fast cars. He took pride in keeping everything in his life in A1 shape, from his landscaping to his personal projects.

Above all, Mac cherished his family. He was first married to his high school sweetheart, the late Marjorie Sakal, and later shared many loving years with his wife, Lorraine (Lori) Sakal, whose love, support, and devotion were constants in his life. He was a loving yet firm father to five children, a proud grandfather to seven, and doting “Pappa” to three great-granddaughters. His guidance, humor, and steadfast presence will be deeply missed.

A celebration of life will be held to honor a man whose adventurous spirit, generosity, and unwavering love left a lasting mark on all who knew him. In his memory, the family asks that you perform an act of kindness for someone in need.

A visitation for Mac will be held on Friday, August 15, 2025, from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m., with a prayer service at 5:00 p.m., at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 8178 Cline Avenue, Crown Point, IN 46307. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, August 16, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Michael the Archangel Church, 1 West Wilhelm Street, Schererville, IN 46375. Burial will take place at St. Michael Cemetery.
