Born in Laredo, TX, Mary was the daughter of Theodore and Consuelo Cano. She dedicated many years of service to the School City of Hammond, where she built lasting relationships and touched countless lives. After retiring, she continued to care for others as the Family Assistant to Drs. Anthony and Sheillah Gentile, a role she carried out with loyalty, compassion, and quiet strength.
Mary cherished her roles as a wife, mother, grandmother, and great‑grandmother, and she remained deeply connected to her Texas roots throughout her life.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Carl Turner; her parents, Theodore and Consuelo Cano; and her brother, Refugio Cano.
She is survived by her children, Debra (Mark) Hamilton of St. John, and Craig (Julia) Turner of Athens, GA; her grandchildren, Chad Hamilton of Lowell, Tiffany (Rich) Salyer of Crown Point, and Michelle Hamilton; and her great‑grandchildren, Greyson Daray and Henry Hamilton.
Mary is also survived by her siblings, Alicia Balderrama of San Antonio, TX, Theodore, Jr. (Cathie) Cano of Hammond, and Manuel (Tina) Cano of Brownsville, TX; along with many nieces, nephews, and cousins who loved her dearly. The family would also like to acknowledge and thank Sonja and Elena, Justin, Jeremiah, Chrissy, Brenda, and Carolina, whose care, friendship, and support meant so much to Mary and to all who loved her.
Though she is no longer with us, Mary's spirit lives on in the love she shared and the lives she touched. Her family finds peace in knowing she is at rest.
