It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Nancy Jean Eatinger, 78, of Cedar Lake, IN, previously of Schererville, IN. Nancy passed away surrounded by her family on Sunday, May 25, 2025 in Crown Point, IN. She was born on December 16, 1946 in East Chicago, IN to Carl and Virginia (Konikiewicz) Creekmore. She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 53 years, Thomas Eatinger; her parents; her parents-in-law, Robert and LaVerne Eatinger; her sister, Katherine (Cookie) Sherer; and her sisters-in-law, Diane Creekmore, Kathy Carmichael, and Mary Eatinger.
Nancy is survived by her children, Shane (Donna) and Jeff (Sharisa); grandchildren, Alana (Keegan), Austin (Jessica), Mason and Garret; great-granddaughter, Graycen; brother, Carl Creekmore; sisters-in law, Barbara Weeden and Deborah (Jonathan) Holmes-Rees; brothers-in-law, James Sherer and Ronald (Diane) Eatinger; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and life-long friends.
Nancy was the matriarch and heart of the family. Kind, generous, loving, mild-mannered, peaceful, brave, and welcoming are only a few of the adjectives one would use to describe her. She was an amazing cook and the ultimate hostess for family and friend gatherings. Most holiday celebrations and traditions were held at “Nee-Nee’s” house, including pumpkin-carving, egg-decorating and weekly Chicago Bears games.
Nancy enjoyed working for the Lake Central School District for almost 40 years, and she spent most of that time working in the office at Homan Elementary School.
She will be missed by all who knew her.
“A happy family is but an earlier heaven.” - George Bernard Shaw
