

She is survived by her sons, Rick (Carol) Gaskey and Randy Gaskey; grandchildren, Ricky (Nikki) Gaskey, Jason (Jenny) Crews, Justin Gaskey, Chad (Holi) Gaskey and Miranda (CJ) Oatey; great-grandchildren, Genna, Eden, Annaleigh and Zoe Rae Gaskey, Rumour and Lyrik Gaskey, and Seraphina and Ellie Mae Oatey. She had many nieces and nephews as well as many dear friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Gaskey, Sr. and her son, Ronald Gaskey. She was also preceded in death by 11 brothers and sisters; George, John Robert, Clarence Ray, Wanda, Martha, Kathryn, Donald, Roger, Doris Joan, Keith, and Sandra.
Nelma June was born March 18, 1936 in Benton, IL to the late John A. and Opal M. Crisp. She grew up in Franklin County, IL and completed high school and came to northwest Indiana with her cousin, Pat, to find work. She worked at Southern Electric in Hammond, IN and there she met the love of her life, Richard Gaskey, Sr. They married on December 8, 1960 and, together, they raised their three sons in Hammond, IN. She returned to the work force and eventually retired from Riley Elementary School in Hammond with many years of service as the cafeteria manager.
During her life, Nelma June loved to be with her family and was a devoted Christian and faithful church member. Through her years, she lived her quiet faith. She loved to read her Bible and care for others, and she enjoyed other activities such as bowling, dart ball, and word puzzles. She was very devoted and active in her local church, working with youth and children. Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, which were the true joy of her life.
Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, November 20, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 8178 Cline Avenue, Crown Point, IN with Pastor Bob Parnell officiating. Interment to follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, Crown Point, IN.
Friends are invited to meet with the family on Friday, November 19, 2021 from 3:00-7:00 PM and on Saturday from 12:00 PM until time of funeral service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Black Oak Baptist Church, Gary, IN.
