Richard S. Boggess

Duke was the loving husband of 65 years to Margaret (nee Viou) Boggess; devoted father to Richard Boggess, Debbie (Rich) Haager and Michael (Clara) Boggess; proud grandfather to Michael Boggess, Gabby Boggess, Reese Boggess, and the late Matthew Aaron Monreal; cherished son to the late Sherman and the late Lillian Boggess; fond brother to the late Barbara May and the late Mary Mayrack; favorite uncle to several nieces and nephews; brother-in-law to Mary (George) Gasda, Al (the late Phyllis) Viou, the late Marie (Connie) Sierzega, and the late Mike Viou; and proud fur babies grandpa to several pomeranians.

Duke honorably served in the United States Army. He retired with the Hammond City School System as head custodian after 35 years of faithful service. Duke was an avid outdoorsman, loving to garden, go fishing on his boat with his brother-in-laws, camping with the family camper, picnicking, and anything to do with the sun and his family. Duke was a loyal Bears Fan, not missing a game to watch. He was a very active father when raising his family, looking forward to taking his kids roller-skating, being active with all their events, and even self-appointing himself as manager to his son's breakdancing group, acting as driver, set-up crew, and promoter. He was a devoted Catholic and enjoyed attending Mass with his wife. The family is comforted knowing that his grandson, Matthew, his parents and sisters welcomed him into paradise, in which he so strongly believed.

The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff of Transitions Hospice of Crown Point for the loving care they provided for Duke. Special thanks to Marissa, Heather, and Sam.

Visitation will be Friday, August 25, 2023 at 1:00 PM Chapel Lawn Funeral Home. Duke will be entombed at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 8178 Cline Avenue, Crown Point, IN 46307, on Friday, August 25, 2023 at 2:00 PM with Army military rites rendered.
