Born in the Bronx, NY, Robert was a man of integrity, known for his hard work and deep devotion to both his family and community.
Robert is survived by his loving and devoted wife, Karen (Gross) Lynn. He is also survived by five children from his late wife, Sara (Davis) Lynn. They are Robert Lynn, Jr., John (Gabriela) Lynn, William (Joetta) Lynn, David Lynn, and Susan Michelle Lynn, as well as numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Additionally, Robert is survived by his sister, Jeanette McCarthy; brother-in-law, Dan (Sue) Gross; 'aunt-in-law', Barbara (Lynn) Mattingly; and several nieces and a nephew.
Robert received his education at St. Francis Xavier Grade School and Mount St. Michael High School, both in the Bronx. He earned his bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering from Purdue University and his master’s degree in business administration from Indiana Wesleyan University.
A proud veteran, Robert served in the U.S. Navy for eight years, including service in Da Nang, Vietnam. Early in his naval career, he was stationed on the ship that recovered NASA’s Freedom 7 capsule, which carried America’s first man in space. He was also posted on one of the first naval ships involved in the blockade at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, at the onset of the Cuban Missile Crisis. Robert was honorably discharged in 1967, and his sense of duty and patriotism was shaped from this chapter in his life.
Following his military service, Robert spent 32 years in various management positions within the energy industry in Northwest Indiana. After retiring, he found joy and fulfillment in applying his artistic talents to painting and wood carvings, creating works of art that reflected his creative spirit and love of craftsmanship.
Throughout most of his adult life, Robert lived and worked in Northwest Indiana, though he also spent time in Omaha, NE, and Ankeny, IA, before returning to Crown Point in 2021. Wherever he lived, Robert was committed to giving back to the community. Along with his wife, Karen, he established an endowment fund with the Crown Point Community Foundation to support various non-profit organizations in the areas of education, arts and culture, and health and safety. Through this generous fund, Robert has left a lasting legacy of helping others.
