

Robert "Bob" Mrzlack, 81, of Cedar Lake, passed away on Sunday, January 17, 2016. He was born May 10, 1934 to the late Charles and Mildred Mrzlack of Hammond, IN. He graduated from Hammond High School and from Tri State College now Trine University in Angola, IN with a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering. Bob proudly and honorably served on active duty in the U.S. Army from 1954 to 1956. On September 1 , 1956 he married the love of his life, Shirley E. Brooks, and she survives. Bob worked for NIPSCO as an engineer and a manager in electric operations for 36 years, in Hammond and Monticello. He was a member of the Dyer United Methodist Church. He enjoyed traveling, fishing, model trains, visiting his children and grandchildren, and spending special times with family and friends. He especially enjoyed many trips to Bender's Camp on lsland Lake in Northome, MN where he often vacationed with his parents, wife, children, and grandchildren. He inspired in his children a love of nature and the outdoors, and a respect for wildlife. Until the end, Bob created and documented beautiful memories that will provide comfort for those now grieving. He epitomized how one should lead an enriching and multi- dimensional life by raising a family, building a career, having deep faith, sharing his wisdom with his children and grandchildren, and dedicating his life to his best friend, Shirley. He truly was a loving son, husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Bob is also survived by his son, Robert B. (Susan) Mrzlack of Monticello, IN; daughters: Kristi (Jerry) James of Fort Pierce, FL, Beth Howard of Woodstock, GA, and Heather Scheck Mrzlack of Bailey, CO; grandchildren: Michael (Jennifer) Mrzlack, Anthony (Allena) Mrzlack, Ellen Mrzlack, Lisa Mrzlack, Sam Howard, Carly Scheck and Ben Scheck; and great grandchildren: Harrison and Drake Mrzlack. He was preceded in death by his sister, Roberta, a son, Jeffrey, and grandchildren, David and Amy Deison. Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 23, 2016 at the Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 8178 Cline Ave, Schererville, IN 46375, with a memorial service immediately following. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bob's memory to Trine University, One University Avenue, Angola, lN 46703.
