He was preceded in death by his wife of 22 years, Sheila Davis; his parents, Howard and Selma Davis; and his siblings, Eddie Davis, Dooner Davis, Donna Harris, and Sherry Beeson.
Walter is survived by his daughter, Renea (Vincent) Catalano; and his son, Jeff (Kristie) Davis. He was a proud grandfather to Daniel (Sarah) Davis, Kayla (Derek) Miller, Vincent Catalano, Meagan Davis, and Shianne (Chris) Berrier. He was also a loving great-grandfather to Lilliana and Calen, with a future great-granddaughter, Caylor, on the way. He is also survived by his siblings, Peggy Peterson, Judy Davis, and Ronnie Davis.
Walter proudly served in the United States Air Force for four years. After his service, he worked on the railroad as a carman for many years until his retirement.
In his free time, Walter enjoyed watching game shows, gambling, and making up jokes, even if the family did not always find them funny. He was known for calling family members to rant about television commercials. Although he did not often say “I love you,” his actions showed how deeply he cared for his family. Walter was a proud longtime member of Black Oak Baptist Church.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in his honor to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
Visitation will be held at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 8178 Cline Avenue, Crown Point, IN, 46307 on March 12, 2026, from 10:00 am until the time of service at 12:00 pm. He will be laid to rest at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.ChapelLawnFunerals.com for the Davis family.
