Dolores Progler was born as a first generation American on August 20, 1934 in New York City to Dolores’ parents Armand and Mary who immigrated from Southern Italy. She grew up in The Bronx where she attended public high school and was voted most likely to succeed in her class. She also attended Hunter College in NYC. Dolores worked in various administrative functions including executive assistant at General Electric. She met a dashing NYC police officer named Joseph Progler who became the love of her life and they were married in 1958. Within a few years after marriage, they started a family having two sons Joseph and Christopher. They moved from the Bronx to upstate New York where Dolores primarily focused on being a full time mother while also working a number of local jobs including medical office manager, photography studio assistant, undercover security officer and jewelry store associate. Joseph commuted to New York City finally retiring as a Battalion Chief of the New York City Fire Department in 1993. In 2003, Joseph and Dolores moved to Plano Texas from New York to be closer to their son and grandsons Christopher Jr. and Zachary. Dolores and Joseph spent 58 wonderful years together until his passing in 2016.
Dolores and Joseph became part of a tight knit group of families who moved out of the city to raise children in the up and coming neighborhoods north of New York City. They had total dedication to their family as first priority and worked hard to make a loving and caring home for Joseph and Christopher. Dolores' parents Armand and Mary lived close by as part of this tight knit family along with Dolores' sister Lucille, Lucille’s daughters Sunday and Camille, Dolores' sister-in-law Ann and many other local relatives. Dolores loved nothing more than spending time with her wonderful family and holiday get togethers especially were the highlight of the year for her.
One of Dolores' favorite pastimes was cooking, especially traditional Italian style with her mother Mary. She also read extensively and tended to a large collection of plants in and around the house. She enjoyed decorating and had a keen eye for style and a spirited fashion sense. Joseph and Dolores enjoyed going out and entertaining friends in their suburban home. Dolores was an accomplished bridge player, had a fun and edgy wit, many close friends, a love of poetry, the beach and sun. She infused her children with a creative side and emphasized the importance of education which continues to enrich their lives.
Dolores is survived by her sons Joseph and Christopher and her grandsons Christopher Jr. and Zachary. We celebrate the remarkable and loving memories that stay with all those she touched.
