Ed was born August 30, 1932 in Campo, Colorado to Joe and Ruth Lock. He was reared on a farm in a rural community just outside Springfield, Co. During his high school years in Vilas, Co. Ed was a recipient of the Danforth Award. This recognition challenged the recipient to: “Dare greatly, live usefully and share freely all worthwhile things in life.” Ed was also involved in sports through his childhood and even played in the high school state championship basketball game in Denver.
Ed married Joyce Alonna Massar on November 7, 1952 and graduated from CSU with an Animal Husbandry Degree. He served in the U.S. Military and worked in the veterinary clinic at the Army Dog Training Center.
He enjoyed a long career as an agricultural investment officer for John Hancock. Ever the working man, he continued his success and started his own company, Lock Agri-Finance, serving clients nationwide until his late 70's.
Ed could engineer and build anything from scratch. He was very talented in fine woodworking, landscaping and gardening. He was also a grilling master. He enjoyed golf and tennis in his down time. As a lifelong learner, he became a skier and a skilled classical guitarist in his retirement. Ed was kind, smart, generous, and loving. Many people aspire to be like him.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Earl Lock and Ruth Mock Lock; and his brother, Don Lock.
Ed is survived by his wife of 64 years, Joyce A. Lock; his daughters, Janelle Pfleiger and Janette Lock-Hanssen; five grandchildren: Alonna Brorson, Regan Pfleiger, Sterling Pfleiger, Mathias Hanssen, and McCall Hanssen; three sisters, Marjorie Hutches, Donna Self and Lenora Johnson; and numerous nieces, nephews, many friends, and extended family.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made in Ed’s memory to the Alzheimer's Association for ongoing medical research at alz.org, or by calling 1.800.272.3900.
