

Eline Lynda Abbott, 83, of Dallas, Texas, passed away on Saturday, August 17, 2024. She was born on a rural farm on April 19, 1941 in Olney, Texas, to the late Arnold and Bertha Koester. She was baptized into the Lutheran Church, Missouri Synod on June 1, 1941 and confirmed on April 11, 1954 both at St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Olney, Texas. At an early age, Lynda learned to play piano and shared her gift of music at St. Luke’s and other local churches in the area. She graduated from Olney High School in 1957 and went on to attend Concordia Lutheran College in Austin, Texas. Lynda went on to accept a dental assistant position in Wichita Falls, Texas. It was there that she met Charlie Abbott on a blind date. They quickly fell in love and married on July 26, 1966. They relocated to Dallas and built a home where they raised 2 children, Kelly and Jeff. Lynda was a dedicated wife and mom who would go to great lengths to ensure her family was deeply loved and cared for. While being an incredible homemaker, Lynda loved being active outside the home. She learned to play tennis and played for many years. Lynda treasured countless family vacations to the mountains as well as cruises and road trips with her family to see and explore the beauty of the earth. She was an amazing cook who enjoyed baking for all occasions. Lynda was actively involved in church her entire life. She was a member of Messiah Lutheran Church in Richardson, Texas where she was able to give of her talents as a floral designer and wedding coordinator for many years. Later in life, Lynda became a member of Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Plano, Texas where she dedicated herself to lead the Altar Guild. Most recently, Lynda attended Faith Lutheran Church in Plano, Texas where she continued to receive the Word of the Lord until her death. In addition to raising a family, dedicating herself to the Lord and cooking up a storm, she also volunteered for 3 different hospitals, giving her free time back to serving the community she loved. “Lynda volunteered with Methodist Richardson Medical Center for 24 years, 10 months totaling over 13,907 hours.” “Lynda was selfless of giving her time and talents to Methodist Richardson. She served as a President of the Volunteer Auxiliary for 2 years and was Day Chair for the Thursday morning team for many years. That was just who she was...always caring for others and committing 100% to whatever she did.”
Lynda was a born leader who commanded a presence. She was kind, strong, and smart with a wonderful sense of humor. Lynda walked this earth with pose and grace and left an imprint on many. She will be greatly missed by all who loved and knew her.
In addition to her parents, Lynda was preceded in death by her infant brother Karlos Koester, her son Jefferson Abbott, son-in-law Martin Engelbert and her beloved dog Maggi. She is survived by her devoted husband of 58 years, Charles Abbott; daughter, Kelly Engelbert; grandchildren, Emmy Engelbert, Thomas Engelbert, Dustin Abbott and daughter-in-law, Felicia Abbott.
A memorial service will be held on September 14, 2024 at Faith Lutheran Church, 1701 E. Park Blvd., Plano, Texas 75074 at 12pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Faith Lutheran Church at the address above.
