Born September 1, 1939 in Topeka, Kansas and passed away on October 23, 2014 at his home in Dallas as he wished. Fritz was a devoted son to Edgar Aldrine and Lorene Schulmeister, stepfathers Lloyd Anspaugh and Bob Cushing, all of whom preceded him in death, as well as a devoted brother to Edgar Aldrine (wife Regina) and Mike Aldrine (wife Sharon).
He was a wonderful and loving husband to Peggy for 53 years, after having met her in grade school. Fritz was a proud, supportive father to Amy Dziak (husband Steve) and Fritz Joseph Aldrine, II (wife Stacey) and loving grandfather to Samuel and Erin Hawrylak and Fritz, III and Ellie Aldrine, with whom who he loved spending time in the pool and grilling “too done” food.
Fritz was an avid reader. He was a very proud Marine and a scholar of military history, especially of World War II – a highlight of which was his and Peggy’s trip to France to tour the battlefields of D-Day. He loved playing golf, fishing – especially at Casey’s lake house, hunting, playing gin rummy, classical music, and crossword puzzles. Most of all, he enjoyed the company of his family and friends.
A graduate of Washburn University in Topeka, Fritz then worked at Northwestern Mutual Insurance Company, IBM for 17 years, and Apple Corp. for 6 years. He then started his own insurance company, at which he worked until recently. Fritz enjoyed a huge network of friends and loved nothing more than keeping in contact with them.
Diagnosed with cancer in 2010, he lived the next four years with courage, a sense of humor, and a love of life. A celebration of his life will begin with a rosary on Tuesday, October 28, 2014 at 7 p.m. at Ted Dickey West Funeral Home, 7990 George Bush Turnpike, Dallas, Texas 75252, followed by a funeral mass on Wednesday, October 29 at 11 a.m. at All Saints Catholic Church, 5231 Meadowcreek Drive, Dallas, Texas 75248, with a reception following. Fritz will be buried at DFW National Cemetery following the reception.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society or the Wounded Warrior Project.
