

Capt. George Robert “Bob” Rymal, USN Retired, passed away in Plano, TX on February 5, 2012 surrounded by his loving family. He was born on September 10, 1922 in Algoa, TX. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Juanita A. Rymal of Carrollton, TX, his sister Winnie Sanders of Crockett, his three children, Gary Rymal of Tampa and his wife Gail, Bob Rymal of Midland and his wife Vicki, Dana Van Steenbergen of Carrollton and her husband Tom, and eight grandchildren, Robert Rymal, Katie Rymal, Becky Rymal, Martha Mayo, Kelsey Hollis and Wesley Van Steenbergen. Capt. Rymal enlisted in the Navy August 1942 as an aviation cadet in Dallas, Texas and commenced flight training at the University of Texas in Austin. During his distinguished 27 year career, his assignments included Night Fighter Pilot Squadron 101, VX1 Antisubmarine Development Squadron, Commanding Officer VS31, and VS41, Operations Officer U.S.S. Randolph, and Executive Officer Naval Air Station Norfolk, VA. His last tour of duty was an assignment to the command staff of Antisubmarine Warfare Atlantic in Norfolk. After retiring from active Naval duty in August of 1969 he served as the Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce in Chesapeake, Va and Bartlesville, OK before again retiring to accept the VP of Marketing post at The Union Bank in Bartlesville, OK. After his final retirement from the bank in 1998 he and his wife moved to Carrollton, TX.
