She was born on January 23, 1932, in Kyoto, Japan to Naoharu Nose and Tamie Sunada Nose.
Haruko was raised in Japan with her seven siblings and attended high school. She was a teenager during World War II and witnessed the atomic bomb flash that hit Hiroshima while her family stayed at her grandparents’ house in Hiroshima County during the war.
Haruko later married Daniel Richard Fuhrman in Kyoto in 1958, while Dan was in the Air Force stationed in Japan. The couple relocated to Pennsylvania while Dan attended college at Penn State University. Haruko, improving English as a second language, worked in a restaurant and sewing factory as she began pursuing her U.S. Citizenship and getting a driver’s license.
After Dan graduated, the couple moved to Brea, California, and later had two children, Deborah and Andrew. They raised Debbie and Andy in Tempe, Arizona and remained there for nearly 50 years. In 2020, Haruko relocated to Plano, Texas to live with Debbie and son-in-law Gene.
In her early years, Haruko taught ballroom dance and enjoyed dancing the Rumba, Jitterbug, and Tango with Dan. Haruko and Dan were big fans of Penn State football and attended many Bowl games that Penn State was in over the years. Watching a good action or rom-com movie was one of her favorite things to do, and if it had Tom Cruise or Ryan Gosling in it, that was a bonus! Haruko was an amazing cook, seamstress, and was very artsy with her talents of painting, knitting, pottery, macramé, flower arranging, and origami.
In her spare time, Haruko loved clothes shopping at the mall and especially loved a good sale! She adored being pampered at the spa or nail salon with her daughter, and attending her kids and grandkids’ events over the years warmed her heart. And she loved to eat! Her favorite foods were sushi, teppanyaki, or a nice filet mignon grilled by Gene with a baked sweet potato, salad, and of course, ice cream for dessert.
Her family and friends will always remember her as faithful, fun, flirty, feisty, and a fashionista. She had a contagious laugh and was so appreciative of her wonderful life, family, and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Naoharu Nose and Tamie Sunada Nose, brothers Masa-aki and Takao, sisters Kimie, Kazue, and Teruyo, and husband Dan, who have been reunited with her in heaven.
Haruko is survived by her daughter Deborah Wolfgram and husband Gene, son Andrew Fuhrman and wife Christy, grandchildren Amanda Wolfgram, Ashley (Wolfgram) Lucio and husband Andrew, Christian Fuhrman, Ethan Fuhrman, sisters Hiroko Tazumi and Sakae Maeda, sister-in-law Sug Fuhrman, and many nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, February 8, 2025 at 10:30 AM at Mariposa Gardens Memorial Park & Funeral Care located at 6747 E Broadway Rd, Mesa, AZ 85206.
If desired, memorials can be made to the American Heart Association by making a Memorial Gift honoring the memory of Haruko Fuhrman. https://www.heart.org
