

Jim was born on August 26, 1961 in Vernon, TX, to Keith and Mildred Ott. He graduated from Bowie High School in Arlington in 1979 and earned his Bachelor of Arts at Concordia College in 1983. It was in college where Jim met the love of his life, Cathleen, and they were married in Navasota, TX on June 11, 1983.
Jim was an avid sports fan, playing in various leagues, fund raisers, and tournaments for tennis, jogging, golf, disk golf, and cycling. He rode the Hotter-N-Hell 100 in Wichita Falls twice. But he cheered no one on more than the Texas Rangers.
Jim loved to serve on mission trips with Joni and Friends, Wheels for the World. Helping to give the gift of mobility and sharing the Love of Christ.
In his career Jim began selling Hi-Fi Stereos after college and transferred in to personal computers, spending 22 years with IBM as a technical systems engineer and manager. He attended Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Plano.
Jim is survived by Cathleen, his loving wife of 33 years; mother, Mildred Ott; brothers, Bruce Ott, Robert Ott and wife, Amy, Tom Ott and wife, Elizabeth; and nieces. He was preceded in death by his father, Keith; and sons, Matthew and Bradley.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 9, 2017 from 5-7pm in Ted Dickey West Funeral Home, 8011 Frankford Rd, Dallas, TX 75252. A funeral service will be held on Friday, February 10, 2017 at 11am in Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 3601 W. 15th St., Plano, TX 75075.
