

Jarius Bradford "J.B." Scott, 96, passed away on Thursday, January 9th, 2025 in Richardson, Texas. He was born in Cooke County, Texas on October 5th, 1928 to Walter Helton Scott and Myrtle Carrie Bradford Scott.
J.B. grew up in Cooke County, Texas and Thackerville, Oklahoma. He graduated from Thackerville High Scool in 1946. After graduating, he and his brother, Bill decided to move to Dallas, Texas. There they would attend Highland Park Church of Christ, and where he would meet his wife to be, Tommie Ellon Melton. After dating for about three years, they married on June 1st, 1951.
He served in the Army from 1948 to 1949 on active duty during the Korean War, then re-enlisted in the Air Force until 1952. He and Tommie lived just off base in Greenville, South Carolina. After his discharge, they moved back to Dallas and he went to work for Conway Oil Company in 1953. Shortly thereafter, he was persuaded by Nelson McCord Sr. to come to work for him in sales at McCord Printing Company. He commuted back and forth between Dallas and Denton while attending the University of North Texas, graduating in 1957 with a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree.
On February 23rd 1963, Tommie gave birth to their only child, Michael John Scott. Shortly thereafter, in 1965, they had a house built in Richardson, and became lifelong members of Waterview Church of Christ.
He was very successful at selling, and eventually became a partner and co-owner of McCord Printing Company, working alongside Nelson McCord Jr. and Miles McCord. After 46 years, he retired as President of the company at the age of 75.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Tommie Scott; brothers, Leo Scott and wife Mabel of Thackerville, OK, Travis Scott and wife Edris of Marietta, OK, Bill Scott and wife Ann of Richardson, TX, Ray Scott and wife Barbara of Abilene, TX; sisters, Ruby Burkhart and husband Haskell of Gainesville, TX, Mildred Chapman and husband Basil of Dallas, TX, and Martha Flanagan and husband Norman of Marietta, OK.
He is survived by his son, Mike Scott of Richardson, TX; longtime family friend and caregiver, Bennie Rutledge of Richardson, TX; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the caregivers and all of the staff at Appletree Court Assisted Living and Holding Hands Hospice for the loving care that J.B. has received during the past two and a half years; and to the Waterview family for their never-ending love and compassion, and always reminding J.B. he was not forgotten.
A funeral service will take place on Saturday, January 25, 2025 at 12 PM at Waterview Church of Christ, 1409 N Waterview Dr, Richardson, TX 75080. This will conclude public services.
Respecting the families wishes, a private interment will take place at a later date.
